Here are items from our discussion.

For 2011, CTC had an Arbor Day celebration in Town Park with the planting of ferns, annuals, and shrubs on the slope next to the courts. PW used anticipated money from PEPCO to grind stumps and replace some trees. PW also had an Arbor Day celebration/planting on April 10 at Spellman Elementary School.

For 2012, CTC may have an event that doesn't include a planting, but rather a celebration of trees that were planted. PW may do another event at Spellman that we can join so CTC can have two events. We need to coordinate because there are several other spring events. The Garden Club plant sale, Truck Touch,  .......

The current newsletter contains information about trees planted. Out of 155, 40% are on private property.

Mike Callahan mentioned that Dan Smith has been in contact with a landscape design group that is a charitable organization. They volunteered to survey Town Park, get ideas from Cheverly, and then return with a plan for landscaping. All of this for only $200.

Dan is also the project manager for a $500 grant that was mentioned at the last work session.

Mike also mentioned that, due to decreased property values and the reassessment of homes in Cheverly, town revenue is down for the next 3 years.

Nathan brought up the Tree-Based Energy Conservation Program. PEPCO will give away trees. Last year they had 1K for each MD, PG county, and DC.

The Arbor Day Foundation is taking order for trees now. Probably too late to mention in the next newsletter but we may still be able to get some.

Mike raised the subject of the tree survey form. He did several streets near his house and came up with a simplified form for collecting data. Also, he suggested that we look into iTree software before we do too much collecting. It may be simpler to directly insert the data into the program or use the program after data is collected and then get someone (boy scout?) to enter the data.

We will be discussing another street planting for this year. Lake and Euclid were mentioned. The end of Greenleaf is bare and the street, especially on the right side, has large tree boxes. We will be coordinating with town plantings done by PW.

A lot of this needs to be finalized before next month's meeting. We can conduct this over email.
