Minutes of Cheverly (Maryland) Tree Commission, February 23, 2010
The Cheverly Tree Commission began its meeting in Committee Room 2 of the Cheverly Community Center, 6401 Forest Road, Cheverly, MD, at 7:40 PM, with commissioners Nathan McElroy, Michael Giese, Steve Casper, Andrea Leal, and Michael Callahan in attendance.
The Commission began with a discussion of administrative matters, including compliance with Maryland Open Meetings Act requirements and creation of online communication tools for the use of the Commission.
Commissioner McElroy discussed his meeting earlier in the day with Cheverly Public Works Director Juan Torres regarding cooperation with the Tree Commission on spring tree plantings in Town of Cheverly.
Discussion segued into review of outreach possibilities for the Cheverly Tree Commission, including possibility of cooperation with 4th Ward Civic Association, compilation of contact list, and creation of “block captains” to spearhead tree planting efforts in specific areas of town.
Commission agreed that Commissioner McElroy would meet again with Mr. Torres next week to discuss list of preferred trees for spring tree planting.
Commission agreed that it would not sponsor any particular Arbor Day event in April 2010.
Commission agreed that it would participate in Cheverly Day 2010 with informational booth.
Meeting adjourned at 9 PM.
