Town Administrator’s Report

Mr. Warrington the activity at Legion Park is storage by WSSC for the second half of the Cheverly Avenue pipe repair.  So far no complaints regarding the WSSC traffic.  We will be ordering trees in mid-October, watch the Newsletter.  The stage is almost complete as we wait for one more set of railings, seal it and then spend the remainder of the grant.  Mr. Torres has been meeting with Pepco regarding the preparation of their tree management plan.  The raised crosswalks are soon to be modified by the contractor.  We need to move two water valves and a sewer top and they should be fixed within the month.

Chief’s Report

Chief Robshaw.  We don’t have a crime report tonight as we are in transition having purchased an RMS system.  We are transitioning to an all electronic system. Public Safety day will take place on September 16th.   We invite all residents to come down and enjoy dinner made by the American Legion.  Please contact us if you would like to participate in the bake sale for Police Survivors, which takes care of families of officers who have lost their life in the line of duty.  We have an obstacle course for the kids that we think they will find very challenging and a lot of fun.  Local construction companies have donated some interesting items.  We will have a moon bounce, snow cones, cotton candy and a DJ.  Robberies and assaults are up in the County, but the crime of violence has not been a problem in our town.  Theft from autos is our greatest crime.

Recreation Council

Barbara Pejokovich  the next Rec. Council meeting will be on the 22nd of the month.  I only have a few tables left for the upcoming flea market, so give me a call if you are interested. The money goes to 3 scholarships to seniors in Cheverly going to college.  Please come to the flea market you never know when you will find the treasurer you were looking for and had to have.  We just completed the building utilization meeting for the gym and have worked with all the groups to address their building use needs for the upcoming season or year.

Green Infrastructure Committee

CM Eldridge we encourage residents of the town to get involved with the Green Infrastructure Committee.

Cheverly Day Committee

CM Daly this is a parade year next year so get your ideas and neighbors together to participate.

Planning Board Report

CM Eldridge the Planning Board is on hiatus and they may be changing their meeting date.  They are looking for people to get involved.  The Cheverly Sector Plan project is a great project if you want to get involved.

Citizen Input

Ms. Diane Beedle resident of the fourth ward and own a rental property on Tremont in the first ward.  Gave a recap from her perspective of the ice on Tremont Avenue that WSSC disturbed a spring and that the road is icing from leaks.  The Town has looked at the problem and I heard that the Town has received proposals ranging from $100,000 to $20,000.  Last week I was informed that the Town was going to groove the road, a low cost option, to direct the water to the gutters to go to the stormdrain.  I was told that the Town would try and see if this works and if not then look at the more expensive route.  I have submitted a series of questions about the plan to the Mayor and the Councilmember of Ward 1 and Ward 4.

Mr. Fred Price, Jr. 1700 block 62nd Avenue.  There has been new leadership in the Ward 4 Civic Association.  I attended a meeting on racism in America and I would hope it would lead to a discussion on the isms, racism and sexism.  I would think that we could name something after some folks of color as we have had two County Executives that have lived in the town.

Introduction O-1-15 Parking in the Industrial Park

Mr. Warrington this is the introduction.  It is a change to our parking and driving conditions on Lydell, Schuster and Pepsi Place.  We are going to allow parking from 6am to 9pm.  There will be no overnight parking and no parking during a snow emergency.  We have notified all of the property owners, with no comment to date.

Mayor and Council Announcements

CM Coolen September 19th is the next market, Saturday, please come to Town Park for the Community Market.   It will focus on health and wellness with a regular and child yoga class.

CM Riazi this is directed at Pepco.  I want to let people to know that you can refuse the work.  You have an option to call and have a conversation with Pepco before they do any work.  Today is world suicide prevention day and we have all lost so much by those who have lost by suicide.  Listen and let people to know you care you can always call the suicide hotline at 18002738255 or 211.

CM Eldridge to clarify we do not have the same leverage with Pepco if the tree is on public property or on a right-of-way. There have been a few questions about paint at Cheverly Avenue and Montrose.  That is an outline of a potential sidewalk expansion to get to the bus stop.  There is no construction eminently.  The Worksession is September 24th:  SHA Response Letter regarding speed cameras, Cheverly Avenue and Montrose Road design, Pepco tree trimming.
