Town Administrator Report

Mr. Warrington the Town’s audit report is completed.

Chief’s Report

Chief Robshaw noted that our crime is down 35%, but more than 50% of our crime is theft and most of it is preventable.  We had 17 thefts from car and all but 4 of the incidents the cars were left unlocked with items visible.  If we lock the vehicles and remove items of interest then we can further reduce our crime theft rate.  It is a crime where the closure rates are very low.  We had a great Halloween which went off without a hitch.  The pedestrian crossings where we have the new flashing lights are just warning lights.  They are not traffic lights.  We do not want you to have a false sense of safety.  A pedestrian in the crosswalk has the right-of-way, but as a pedestrian you can not walk out in front of a vehicle where a vehicle has no opportunity to stop.  I want to thank the Council for voting for the Shop with a Cop grant.  We will be taking 10 kids to Prince George’s Plaza for shopping and lunch.

Committee Reports

Recreation Council I want to thank those who came to the Flea Market.  The Halloween Party was a great success.  The Holiday Party will be December 1st here and will include a visit from Santa. The next meeting will be January 22nd at 7pm in the conference room.

Green Infrastructure Reports

Ms. Salo the results are in for the Cheverly biggest tree contest and it is a Tulip tree in Woodworth Park on the property owned by the Town of Cheverly.  There were 20 nominees and the remainder of the results will be announced at the Community Market.  On November 17th we are wrapping up the Cheverly year of the Oak and Mt. Rainier Nature Center will be coming to give a presentation on Oaks and will be bringing animals.  We meet the first Monday of every month.

Ms. Salo at the Thankgiving Market on the 17th we will have events in the conference room regarding the wrap-up of the year of the oak. From 11-1 you can bring all your questions of the arborist.  Mt. Rainier will be bringing a program all about oaks.  We will have the award ceremony for all of Cheverly’s biggest trees.  The list can be found on our website.

CM Eldridge the Planning Board is wrapping up the Envision Cheverly notes and anyone interested in redevelopment should stay involved with the Corridor Plan.

CM Riazi on the 11th minute on the 11th hour on l1th month, there will be a flag raising ceremony in Legion Park.

Green Infrastructure Award

CM Eldridge the award was given by the Keep Prince George’s County Beautiful Commission for the Outreach and Education Committee for the Green Infrastructure Plan on the behalf of the hard work on the plan.

Cynthia Robinson I am the Chair of the group.  This award was specifically for the stormdrain decal marking project.  It was a community collaboration.  The Chesapeake Trust funded the decal marking in coordination with the Anacostia Watershed Society.  There were so many different groups when it came time to the actual marking with the decals.  It was a great example of everyone getting involved and we marked over 300 stormdrains.

Adoption – O-4-12 Repealing and Reenacting the Ethics Ordinance

Mr. Colaresi the State law requires us to change our Ethics Ordinance to comply with State law.  They have dictated what we must include.  It requires that all decision making committee member do a quick financial gifts form.

Mayor in the upcoming election anyone running for office will also have to complete the new forms and we hope this does not discourage anyone from participating in local government.

  • CM Coolen to adopt Ordinance O-4-12 Repealing and Reenacting the Ethics Ordinance.  CM Riazi seconded. Approved unanimously.
Mayor meeting adjourned.
