Minutes for November 20, 2013 Selectmen’s Meeting

Public Hearing Liquor License Renewal Kevin & Sundae Fallen,
The Roost, Inc., D/B/A Personal Touch Catering

The Public Hearing was opened at 7:03 PM.  

Michael Grovo, Chief of Police, reported there have been no issues with this establishment.

There were no other comments or questions.  The hearing was closed at 7:04 PM.


Public Hearing Continued from Nov. 13, 2013, Regarding Notice of Unsafe Structure

The Public Hearing from November 13 was re-opened at 7:04 PM.  Fred Farnham, Code Enforcement Officer, read a follow-up letter in regards to the status of work on the Boure residence at 62 Town Farm Road.  Selectman Emery read an update from Chad Poitras, local Health Officer.

The Board voted to continue the Public Hearing and re-open the discussion for at the next Selectmen’s Meeting on December 4, 2013.  The hearing ended at 7:10 PM.

  • Discussion held between 5:00 & 7:00 p.m.
At 5:00 the Board met with a representative from Casella Waste.  They went over the curbside pick-up contract and talked about the possibility of an extension of that contract.

Also at 5:00 there was a presentation to Charlene Fields, former Librarian at the West Buxton Public Library.  Selectman Harmon presented a clock to Charlene in recognition of the Town’s thanks and appreciation for the 7 years she served as the Librarian, and for all she did for the town and the library.

  • Review of Projects and Issues
Selectman Booker talked about the Board’s Workshop and said they did get caught up on many things they went over.  Other than that, she has been spending time going over the mail and other things that came up.

Selectman Harmon also mentioned the Workshop and said they did not get to the Internal Control Document but did get a lot done.  She has been in every day working on day-to-day things, abatements, payment arrangements and other issues.  She reported on the annual Thanksgiving dinner that is put on for our employees and our Community Cares people.



Selectman Emery said he had a list of fourteen items that needed to be taken care of during the Workshop, and the Board resolved all of them except a couple that they need more information on.  The Board is planning to have another Workshop in the next couple of weeks.

There will be no Board of Selectmen Meeting on Wednesday, November 27th.  Office hours for Thanksgiving week are Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

Board of Selectmen Meeting Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at 7:00 PM

Maine D. O. T. Public Meeting at Buxton Town Hall Thursday, December 5, 2013, at 6:00 PM, regarding the Bar Mills Bridge and the Canal Bridge Project

Public Hearing from November 13, 2013, will be re-opened Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at 7:00 PM.



  • Other Business
Rabies Vaccination Clinic Saturday, December 7, 2013, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Buxton Public Works Garage.  Cost is $8.00 per vaccination – CASH ONLY.  All dogs must be brought in on a leash and all cats must be in carriers.  For faster service please bring the previous rabies vaccination certificate.  Anyone from any community is welcome to attend.  For more information call the Buxton Town Hall at 929-6171.  The clinic is sponsored by the Hollis Animal Clinic, the Towns of Buxton & Hollis and the Vacationland Dog Club.

Town Office will be closed Thursday & Friday, November 28 & 29, 2013, for Thanksgiving.


There will be no curbside trash pickup on Thanksgiving Day.  Thursday’s trash will be picked up the following day, Friday, Nov. 29

The Buxton Transfer Station will re-open Saturday, November 30th

2014 Dog Licenses are due by Tuesday, December 31, 2013.  Please license your dogs now to avoid paying additional fees.



  • Public Comments and Questions
Chief Michael Grovo reviewed statistics for last week and provided information on the last Drug Take-Back Initiative.  The Town of Buxton took back 62.4 pounds of medications.  Chief Grovo reported that the numbers are going down and he reminded everyone that the Buxton Police Department now has their own locked, take-back box so people can come in at any time and drop unused medications.
