Minutes for December 9, 2009 Selectmen’s Meeting

Members Present: Jean C. Harmon, Daniel T. Collomy, Linda W. Pulsoni. Peter E. W. Burns and Robert C. Libby were absent.

Selectmen’s Meeting Agenda – 7:00 p.m.
The Meeting wall called to order at 7:03 p.m.
- Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes
Selectmen Meeting Minutes 11/18/09. Approved 3-0-2.
Selectmen Meeting Minutes 12/2/09. Approved 3-0-2.
- Discussion held between 5:00 & 7:00 p.m.
Auditor was scheduled, but cancelled until all Selectmen were available.
- Email from Joseph Young, Maine State Planning Office – Re: Maine Floodplain Management and Mapping News
- Email notification that Stimulus Money is available for Maine Public Buildings that switch heat sources from foreign oil
- Email from Maine Public Health agency – Re: H1N1 Vaccine and Treatment Update
- Review of Projects and Issues
Selectman Collomy reported that he has looked into the sealing of the entire floor of the Public Works Garage and found that the interior floor has already been sealed. The only area that needs seal guard applied is outside the doors.
Selectman Pulsoni stated that now is the time to sign up for the Rescue Subscription program.
Selectman Harmon reminded everyone that you can sign up any time during the year for the Rescue Subscription Program, not just in December.
Selectman Harmon reported on the School Board Meeting that took place Monday night. The School Board was taking public input regarding cost saving measures that the District might implement. Selectman Harmon asked the District to consider using one bus to take kids to after school games rather than two busses. Another issue that was brought up was the date for voting on the budget. Selectman Burns asked the Board to consider moving the budget voting to the June election rather than May as attendance is down.
It was also noted that Buxton’s valuation increased by 6% by the State for the prior year and that will have an effect on Buxton’s share of the school budget.
The Wreaths Across America program takes place this coming Saturday, December 12th at 11:30 a.m. at the So. Buxton Cemetery.
Selectman Harmon stated that there had been some complaints on the road plowing. The crew has been out doing their very best to take care of the roads.
Selectman Harmon stated that the Selectmen had been notified that the Galen Cole Foundation was making available to every Town a granite bench to be placed next to a monument. Buxton will be making a grant application for two benches and 24 flags to be placed around Town.
Public Works Garage Floor Sealing – The sealing outside has not been done.
Installation of Plexiglas in Front Office – working on the design process and getting quotes from contractors.
Repair Church Hill Salt Shed -- Waiting for input from the Public Works Director
Update Fuel Service Switch – Gathering pricing and services from other companies.

Selectman Collomy has been asked to build a canopy over the new generator that has been ordered. He is getting the specifications and will be glad to build it.
Reminder the Toy Box moves in on Thursday, December 10 and the Selectmen’s Meeting will not be broadcast live next week.
