There is also a trip scheduled to the Desert of Maine in Freeport on September 25.  The deadline to register is September 4.  The cost is $25.

  • Public Comments and Questions
May Schumacher thanked every one that made the Community Day event possible.  Specifically she thanked Police Chief Grovo, Fire Chief Mullen and Public Works Director David Pinkham and John Myers for assistance with the parade.  Nick Pinkham mowed the field for the fire works, John Pompeo and Don Marean supplied flatbeds that were used as stages, Aubuchon Hardware supplied tables and chairs, Kyle Smith and Tom Ellis and Lisa and Mike Crockett also volunteer their time to support the event.

May also provided the names of the winners of the events that took place during the day at Community Day.

Robert Elwell also thanked May Schumacher for the wonderful job she did overseeing the Community Day festivities.

Robert asked if the ISO rating would be impacted by moving the proposed fire station out of Town.  He also asked what would be done with the piece of tax property that was put up for sale that had no bids.  The Selectmen stated that they will retain it for now.  He felt that an ad should be placed with the language the Selectmen had the right to accept or reject any and all bids with no minimum bid required.

Robert wanted to know if any thing could be done about the bridge on Route 202 as there was a tragic accident.  The Selectmen stated that they had been working on this issue since 2003.  The DOT states that the bridge is only 50 years old and is structurally sound and does not need to be replaced.  It is unlikely that anything to the bridge will be done.  Buxton has placed ‘No Parking’ signs on the Buxton side of the bridge, but the kids park on the Hollis side and walk to the bridge.  Fencing and sidewalks have been discussed in the past and deemed not feasible.
