Minutes for May 27, 2009 Selectmen’s Meeting

Members Present:  Jean C. Harmon, Robert C. Libby and Daniel T. Collomy.  Selectmen Clifford L. Emery and Linda W. Pulsoni were absent.

Special Town Meeting –7:15 p.m.

A Special Town Meeting was held at 7:15 p.m.  A copy of the Articles discussed is attached.  The Meeting adjourned at 7:43 p.m.

3.      Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes.

Selectmen’s Meeting Minutes May 20, 2009.  Approved 3-0-2  (Selectmen Emery and Pulsoni were absent)

  • Discussion held between 5:00 & 7:00 p.m.
Resident discussed property lines

The Dedication of the Town Report was held at 6:00 p.m.  The Town Report was dedicated to Merton Waterman.

  • Review of Correspondence.
  • Email from Geoff Herman, Maine Municipal Association – Re:  State Budget Update
  • Review of Projects and Issues.
Selectman Libby reported that the benches have been installed at the Korean War Memorial.

Selectman Harmon reported that work is being done at Pleasant Point Park.  Extensive damage was done at the Park two years ago and again in December.  As a result of the damage two foresters have viewed the Park and recommended a management plan to remove trees and retain the Park for recreation use.

E.O.080905021 – An order to appoint Robert Yarumian to the position of Trustee at Pleasant Point Park effective until December 31, 2012.  Approved 3-0-2.

E.O.080905022 – An order to approve 11 hours of vacation time for Greg Heffernan.  Approved 3-0-2.

Annual Town Meeting Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 9:00 a.m.

  • Other Business.
TruChoice Federal Credit Union is sponsoring a Community Celebration on Sunday, June 7th from 10:00 – 2:00 p.m.  There will be games, car wash, scavenger hunt, fire trucks, hot dogs and popcorn.  The car wash is a fund raiser for the Buxton Little League and donations are being accepted for the hot dogs and popcorn for the Keep The Heat On Program.

Selectman Harmon stated that the Selectmen are looking for a non-profit group to host the luncheon for the Annual Town Meeting.  It will be on a first come first serve basis.  If your organization would like to sponsor lunch, call the Town Office.

  • Public Comments and Questions.
Dennis Sweatt stated that Florida is laying off employees and reducing the taxes and parents are now paying for things that the State and Towns used to be paying for.  Dennis realizes that property values are down and wants the Town to reduce spending.  Selectman Libby stated that the budget is down for the upcoming fiscal year and the levy limit has not been exceeded for the next year.

Keith Emery reported that there is a Planning Board Meeting Monday, June 1, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.

Keith asked when the cell tower would be operational.  Selectman Harmon stated that antennas are being purchased and they will be placed on the tower soon.

May Schumacher stated that Community Days is July 24 – 25.  The event starts at noon on the 24th with carnival rides, vendors and live music.  There will be a movie shown on an outdoor screen.

Saturday events start at 8:00 a.m. with a road race and a parade at 10:00 a.m.  There will be a mechanical bull, rock climbing wall, frog jumping and frying pan toss, horse shoe tournament and a pig scramble.  The evening ends with a bean supper, entertainment and fire works.  May thanked the sponsors.

Robert Elwell stated that he obtained a copy of the letter that was read last week from Deluca-Hoffman.  He said that Dearborn submitted a bid of $93,917 for the pavement.

Robert stated that he had a discussion between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. with the Board of Selectmen.

Robert wanted to know why his taxes went up for 09 when one Board member’s taxes went down.

Dianne Senechal reported that the heating season was over and she thanked every one that had donated to the Keep The Heat On Fund.  Approximately 5,400 gallons of fuel was delivered which equated to almost $13,000 spent.
