AGENT’S REPORT
Regionalization – Gerry spoke with Dr. Magee (Commissioner of Public Health, Worcester). Mr. Magee presented a positive overview. His vision is to become a member and be able to opt in to certain services while maintaining the town’s autonomy. Since larger towns have more resources, it could be beneficial to our town. Details still need to be worked out. Dennis said the model has not been written; therefore the towns have nothing to vote on at this point. He believes we should be able to keep our local office, but be able to opt in to certain services also. Gerry asked if there were aspects of the job that could be regionalized. Dennis said yes, services such as swimming pool inspections and food services inspections. Towns are not in favor of
sharing. The CDC is looking for sustainability, but it is not known what happens if a town opts out. Dennis said it should be based on assessments. The grant is due in mid-November. Because it is a federal program, the CDC is putting certain measures into it. It will need both Board of Health and the Board of Selectmen approval in order to proceed.
Flu Season – The state has scaled back the program. The town has received approximately 140 doses. They are targeting young children (18 and younger). Seniors are not a high priority any longer. The VNA will use their vaccine for the seniors this year and bill the insurance companies. Dennis suggested sending out a survey through the schools to obtain a ballpark figure as to how many adults will want the vaccination. If the number exceeds the doses we have, we will ask the VNA what supply they have, or purchase it ourselves and bill the insurance companies. Dennis will speak with Michael Dubrule (School Superintendent). The Senior Flu Clinic will be held October 25th at the Town House from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Dennis made mention that there has been an increase in EEE and West Nile virus. Shrewsbury, Westborough and Sherborn have tested positive for EEE mosquitoes.
