AGENT’S REPORT
Swine Flu Update – It is expected to increase and it is uncertain what the impact will be if both the regular flu and the H1N1 happen at the same time. We are guaranteed 400 doses for the regular flu this year. It is unsure whether the H1N1 vaccine will be ready and what allotment we will receive. DPH is shifting the priority towards younger children rather than older persons. Dennis will have more information by the next meeting. He talked about conducting a meeting with the Fire and Police Departments, Town Administrator and Schools in September. The 28th was proposed as the date for the meeting. The date for the flu clinic/drill was discussed as November 14th.
Educational Programs/Materials for School Children – The MA DPH and Region II nurses are attempting to have the state provide a CD for distribution to the schools for either downloading or printing for school children. Dennis said thumb drives will be used in Boylston. Lorie asked if the Board could employ MWRC nurses to help educate the children about hand washing, etc. It was suggested that Dennis contact the school nurses and principals to see what their needs are and what the Board can help them with. Lorie also suggested they be included in our drill in September.
Tobacco Coalition – Because of budget cuts, the department has been reorganized. New tobacco products are being introduced and further legal research is needed for banning them. Dennis will continue to follow-up.
Lifeguards at Mount Pleasant – A non-issue at this time.
PLAN REVIEW
130 Sewall Street (Persis Hamilton) – Approved.
Lorie motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:30 p.m.; Matt seconded; all agreed.
