AGENT’S REPORT

Tobacco (HOOKAH) Update – Bill McClune, Project Director for the Tobacco Control Program, was one of many who lost their position with the City of Worcester, therefore further information was not received.  Dennis will continue to follow-up.  He suggested we invite the school nurses to attend a meeting to look for ways to work together, e.g., what their needs are and how we can work together to be proactive.  He will contact them for a future meeting.

Mass in Motion Grant Update – The grants were provided to larger regional communities, not one small community.

Swine Flu – Dennis spoke with the Superintendent of Schools to discuss the issue.  He also took part in a conference call with the Mass Department of Public Health this afternoon.  Our role as a local board is informational at this time.  MDPH has supplied information for the schools in addition to a Public Health Fact Sheet.  It will be posted on the website tomorrow.

EDS – Dennis met with Ken Gigas (Region II Consultant).  The book plan is approximately 80% completed.  He will be meeting with the Fire Chief, Police Chief and Ken on May 12th.  Once completed, there will be a tabletop exercise conducted in June.  If two or more members attend, we can then conduct our own drill.  Dennis will provide more information when he receives it.

Fluorescent Light Bulbs – Matt informed the members that there are now some boxes for light bulb disposal at the Town House.  They were obtained from Waste Management at a cost $16.00 per box.  When they are filled, the Lions Club will seal and mail them.  The possibility of the BOH and Lions Club working together was discussed.  A line item would be needed for next year’s budget.  Matt will follow up with Waste Management.

Lorie had a neighbor inquiry about the Asian Long Horned Beetle.  Although the town is in a beetle zone, none have been found.  Residents should check the website for more information.

PLAN REVIEW

20 Hillside Avenue (Walter Tincher) – Approved.

256 School Street (Andrew Rappaport) – Approved.

Lot 4A Sewall Street (Compass Pointe) – No action.

Lorie motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:05 p.m.; Matt seconded; all agreed.
