Minutes
Public Ways Safety Committee
Bolton, Massachusetts
November 9, 2011

Members present included:   Mary Ciummo, Peter Ross, Rob Hagopian Tom Kittler and Leslie Breeze.

Minutes of the previous meeting were deferred until our next meeting.

New Business:

Harold Brown from DPW is the agenda for tonight’s meeting.

1.  Harold announced that the state highway department has scrapped the plan to widen and rebuild Route 117 from Route 495 to the Lancaster town line.  The engineering project alone of this piece of the road will exceed $1,000,000.

2.  He discussed Century Mill Development and the need for road bed standards to be included in a future development bylaw to ensure that the new roads are up to Bolton’s standards.

3.  Brush cutting issues and damages following the “Halloween Snow Storm” are now estimated at $267.000.00.  The Selectman has yet to decide on funding for the clean-up and the state aid, if any, is not yet known.

4.  Harold informed us that Line Painting has been rescheduled due to the late October storm to the week on November 14th.

5.  Mobility Plan was discussed.  He agreed that the state project would have pushed this project along Route 117 to the Lancaster line.  Our narrow roads and questionable ownership of land adjacent to the roads make this difficult issue.

6.  Peter asked Harold about the corner of Route 117 and Sampson Road and asked if this work upgrade had been done to make the area more walkable for the Pondside residents.  Harold stated that it was a drainage upgrade but in fact it does make the area more user friendly.

7.  Harold announced that the Selectman have stated that this is  upcoming year is to be Level Funded. Our committee is re-requesting painting of the roads and the signs from this current year that were not purchased.  We also will be requesting yield templates and crosswalk painting with the thermal plastic paint.

Our meeting concluded at 8:40pm.  Minutes complied by Leslie Breeze.
