Public Ways Safety Committee

August 24, 2011
Members Present: Peter Ross (Chair), Rob Hagopian, Leslie Breeze, Mary Ciummo.
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. The minutes for August 10, 2011 were reviewed and accepted.
Line of Site Bylaw: Peter is waiting to hear from Linda Day about a follow-up meeting with the BOS.
Master List of Intersections: Berlin Rd. from Wattaquadock to Jordan:
- Speed limits are adequate.
- Recommended adding a Yield Ahead sign before the intersection of Wattaquadock.
- Recommended a Left Turn Must Yield sign before the S. Bolton Rd. fork.
- Agreed that the triangle property at Berlin/Jordan/Randall has trees and brush that impede the line of sight.
Points of Discussion for Walkway Plan Meeting with Town Planner on Sept. 14:
- What are the TP’s plans and expectations and how can PWSC help.
- We recommend a subcommittee be formed or a consultant hired to do the work with either group reporting back to us on a regular basis.
- What grant monies are available.
Street Lighting Request at Main Street and Pondside Drive: Rob e-mailed the Town Administrator, Town Planner and DPW our support for adequate lighting at the Regency entrance.
Annual Meetings Schedule with Department Heads: Peter will schedule a meeting with Harold Brown once the BOS meeting is set.
Brush Clearing: It was agreed that brush as well as overhanging tree branches at intersections need heavy trimming. Mary will e-mail the DPW with our request for trimming.
Signage: Mary will e-mail DPW with our purchase request for the following signs:
- Reduced Speed Limit Ahead sign (W3-5) to replace sign on Rt. 117 eastbound by the Catholic Church.
- Reduced Speed Limit Ahead sign (W3-5) on Rt. 117 westbound near Delta Financial.
- Yield Ahead sign (W3-2) on Berlin Road before Wattquadock intersection.
- Left Turn Must Yield sign to go under merge sign on Berlin Road westbound before S. Bolton Rd. fork.
- Merge warning sign on east side of Berlin Rd. right before Frye Rd. merge.
- Merge sign and Left Turn Must Yield sign on Berlin Road westbound before Frye Rd. fork.
- Left Turn Must Yield sign on north side of Wilder Rd. right before Ballville Rd.
Century Mill Estates: Mary will represent the Committee at the Aug. 31st Planning Board meeting and request a new traffic study if 7 more houses are added to the development.
