Public Ways Safety Committee Minutes 10-13-10
Minutes
Public Ways Safety Committee
Bolton, Massachusetts
October 13, 2010

Members present included: Rob Hagopian, Mary Ciummo, Deb Kellett, Peter Ross, Tom Kittler, and Leslie Breeze.

The meeting was called to order at 8:06pm.  The acceptance of the minutes from the September 8th meeting was deferred until the next meeting.

A new resident to town, Winslow Green was present and asked to share his concern.  He lives in the Pondside development and is concerned about the lack of walk able paths on Rte 117.  He commented on the limited pathway on Pondside property that parallels Main Street. “It just ends,” he said.  We explained that our committee had pushed for this sidewalk in hopes of being able to “connect the dots” sometime in the future.  His concern was for the need to walk onto Rte 117 to reach either Sampson Road or Nourse Road.  Mary explained that a redesign of Rte 117 west of Rte 495 to the Lancaster town line is planned in the future.  We suggested that he contact the DPW and express his request for a sidewalk between Nourse and Sampson.   ~

Following a discussion of the road work/road closing at Main and Wattaquodock Hill Rd; Tom will be in touch with DPW and find out more information.

New Business
Concerns over the proposed development on Sugar Rd and its bus pull-off area created a long discussion.  All members are concerned for the safety of the children will enter/exit a school bus twice daily on a narrow, winding road with increased traffic.
Some potential solutions may be:
  1.  Solution similar to Northwood’s development which allows the school bus to enter the development although the road has not been accepted.
  2.  Stopping the bus in the middle of the road to block all traffic.
  3.  Pull off to the side.

We also all strongly believe that this development needs a pathway parallel to Sugar Road inside the stone wall.  Mary will be in touch with Jennifer regarding our recommendations.

Mary was reelected to a second year, expiring in July 2011.

Our next meeting will be on October 27th -7pm. We will meet at the new Public Safety Building.
