PWSC Minutes 11-8-06

Public Ways Safety Committee
Bolton, Massachusetts
November 8, 2006

Members present: Barbara Bing, Mary Ciummo, Deborah Kellett, Cia Ochsenbein,
and Dan Senie
Members absent: Leslie Breeze, Don Cole
Others present: Rob Hagopian

Meeting called to order at 7:10 p.m.

Minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

Traffic Rules and Orders Document: was approved by selectmen. Barbara wrote a note to Vin Alfano reminding them to start enforcing parking on sidewalks.

Sidewalk repair:  Harold has repaired sections of sidewalk at Federated church driveway and in front of Pond Park. Deb, Barbara, and Harold walked stretches of the sidewalk to review trouble spots. Harold talked about them and recommended doing minor repairs with the aim that it would last 5-10 years or until a more major improvement could be done, perhaps when repaving Route 117 in town center. He thought some of these temporary repairs should be a warrant article that he would co-sponsor with us. We are not sure of this, since it seems more like a maintenance issue.

Crosswalk added at library We discussed adding a crosswalk near library --end of southside sidewalk to cross to sidewalk that continues west.. We may want to ask library building committee to work this into their plan. The curb cutout for west driveway could turn into crosswalk  cutout. Two people recalled a crosswalk being there previously—when the post office was in the Murphy insurance location. The additional moveable crosswalk sign would help slow traffic approaching Wattaquoddock Hill rd.

More sidewalk improvement:  We discussed problem of clearing snow from sidewalk. Harold has reduced money and staff available. Mailboxes on sidewalks are an obstacle for snow removal equipment. We discussed other places for mailboxes, or possibly moving sidewalks to outer edge of right of way.

Fog Lines:  we are disappoined fog lines have not been added to any of our recommended roads as previously approved. (Wattaquaddock Hill Road did get them reinstated.) Next meeting we will start a new list with prioritizing.

Moveable pedestrain signs:  Cia to request Harold to buy them now so they can go up in spring early.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
Next meeting Nov 15 due to holiday.

The next meeting is scheduled for 7:00 on Nov 15
