Police Station Study Committee Minutes March 7, 2007
Public Safety Building Task Force Minutes
Date: 3/07/07
Location: Fire Headquarters
Present: D. Rich, M. Diaz, V. Alfano, D. Farrell, M. Giunta, J. Buffum, J. Mentzer
Start Time: 7.30pm
The architect, Brian Hume, had asked what the Town and the Committee would like to officially call this proposed new facility. Jodi Ross suggested that the official title should be actually approved and voted by the Board of Selectmen, after recommendation from the Public Safety Building Committee Task Force. After discussion this meeting, the Committee voted unanimously to recommend to the BOS the following suggested names for the proposed building:
First Choice: “Bolton Public Safety Center”
Second Choice: “Bolton Public Safety Facility”
Chief Alfano then gave the group a synopsis of the time he spent reviewing the space needs proposal for the Police Department with architect Brian Humes earlier this date. The Chief was highly complimentary of Mr. Humes process, his knowledge base, and creative thinking and ideas. The Chief stressed that both he and Mr. Hume focused on the cost effectiveness, and efficiency of the design. The Chief also conveyed to Mr. Humes the sentiment of a number of Town officials and the Committee that the exterior design of the structure reflect the Georgian Colonial style architecture and character of other Town buildings like Town Hall and Emerson School. He agreed.
As the Committee has officially been renamed by the Board of Selectmen to the “Public Safety Building Task Force (a compilation of names of present and past committees) a vote needed to be taken to reaffirm Committee officers. A motion was made to maintain Jeff Buffum as Chair, and seconded by Mark Giunta. The Committee voted unanimously to re-elect Jeff as Chair. Jeff accepted, and stated that should the project meet with approval by the voters in the May Town meeting, he would eventually nominate more construction savy Committee members for the Chair during the construction phase. Meeting adjorned at 9.10pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Vincent C. Alfano
