  • Summer Use of Murphy Court
  • Update on email received from David Rhodes regarding request to reserve Murphy Court for a Central Massachusetts Youth Basketball League. League comprises 50 percent Bolton-based children and 50 percent from surrounding towns.  The league is taking out an insurance policy and will provide a copy of the COI to the town before play begins.  (Tom).
  • Student faculty softball game scheduling
  • School is requesting the use of the Babe Ruth field at Memorial on June 17 at 6:00 p.m.  Need to inform baseball teams and check schedule to ensure there is not a conflict. (Tom).
  • Rental of Softball Field at Memorial
  • The international asked permission for one of their corporate clients, Liberty Mutual, to use the softball field at Memorial on June 5 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Plan to charge them $100 for the use of the field.  Need to discuss a process and pricing system for such requests and posting information on P&R site.  (Tom).
  • Overview of scheduling process for town fields (Tom).
  • Pond Park Skating Rink
  • Update on Boy Scout Michael Bowe’s plan to raise money and install a pump house and staircase for Pond Park project.  (Karen)
  • The pump would be powered by gasoline. (five gallon machine).
  • The shed to store the pump would be made of metal and have a lock with a key that the person in charge of spraying the pond would have (need to identify who that person would be).
  • Bowe plans to start his project in early July and finish in October.
  • P&R team needs to review the proposal for the placement of the stairs and shed and make any recommendations.
  • Update on M&O plan for skating rink at Pond Park. (Karen).
  • Bower’s Springs
  • Discuss topic at Tuesday, May 19 conservation meeting and presentation by Conway School of Landscape Design.
  • Any ideas for recreation use of Bower Springs?  (Team).
  • Discuss survey and any feedback P&R should provide. (Team).

  • Bolton Celebrates/4th of July
  • Daniel Teague would like the town to support the cost for four additional portable toilets for the Family Festival at Memorial Field. The approximate cost is $450 and he uses the same vendor as the town.   P&R does not have the budget, but we need to discuss whether we want to transfer funds from our donation account to cover this cost.

  • Memorial.  (Karen/Tom).
  • Ideas for usage (real boat launch, purchase canoes/paddle boats to rent?  Nature day camp?) (Karen/Team).
  • Post a write in campaign for residents to submit their ideas? (Karen).
  • Well – requires permanent steel doors (see field/facility maintenance).  (Karen).
  • Field/Facility Maintenance
  • Discuss ideas to use the remaining $10K - $12K DPW budget allocated toward field/facility maintenance (by June 30).  (Team).
  • Current ideas:
  • Replace playground surface at Memorial Field.
  • Benches around future skating pond at Pond Park (or toward the steps the Boy Scouts plan to install).
  • Purchasing a brush mower for the DPW.
  • Purchasing a small back hoe for the DPW (to help with sand spreading at Little Pond)
  • A safer backstop at the lacrosse field.
  • Better fencing at lacrosse field.
  • Complete the irrigation system at Forbush.
  • Repair Forbush bare spots with sod starting June 15th; overseed the rest; fertilizer, lime etc.
  • Add sand to the Town Beach (done)
  • Put a roof and siding on the container at Forbush (design needs neighbor approval).
  • Improvement work on Horse Ring field - level it out, mark for field, remove rocks & trees, lower test well head below surface; run wiring and pipes for irrigation
  • Begin improvement work on Derby (see above bullet).
  • Resurface Murphy Court - in FY10 budget – (could do FY09 and repurpose the other money for something else.
  • Anything to fix up Person’s Park building and garage, update the bathroom is gross, remove junk from garage, repaint house, etc.
  • Clarifications:
  • Does maintenance costs include the purchase of whole items (i.e., benches, picnic tables, a brush mower for Pond Park).  (Tom).
  • Can the budget be put toward contracted work that is invoiced by June 30, but with the project continuing past that date? Or must it be invoiced and completed by June 30? (Tom).
  • Update on delivery of signs for Memorial Field regarding spike usage. (Tom).
  • Discuss request from Sam Pierce for the full summer schedule for Murphy Court to post on his organization’s website for the purpose of communicating the court’s use to the public.  P&R Team should decide whether we provide this information to him or instead update our official P&R site to have a calendar which his players can reference.  (Team).

  • Brainstorm session on how we can improve the P&R page (can we expand beyond one static page, is there a better to communicate events, scheduling, etc.)  Determine optimal layout.  (Team).

Description: The Organization for the Assabet River hosts Water Wise Workshops in Marlborough, Westborough and Stow for children ages 6-12.  Edwards asked that we help her publicize her program.
