A meeting of the Bolton Agricultural Commission was held on Tuesday, 19 February 2008 at Town Hall. It was
called to order at 7:40 pm. In attendance were: Held, Kovacs, Nicewicz, and Storbeck.

1. Minutes from prior meeting were adjusted and then approved by those who had attended that meeting.

3. Town Board liaison update:

Ken – Planning Board

i. The recent meeting with the Planning Board was attended. The Toth property was discussed
and noted that it is under P&S with a developer. Ken represented the AgComm and
presented information about the agricultural significance of the property, discussed FOSPR
potential and suggestions on how to put the property in active farming.

Sue – Board of Health

i. Nothing to report

Joe – Board of Selectmen

i. Meeting with Selectmen scheduled for March 13th to review mission/goals and provide an
update on the commission’s activities for the past 6 months.

Rob – Conservation Trust

i. Introduction meeting with Conservation Trust scheduled for March 11th

Martha – Conservation

o No update available

4. MDAR Marketing Grant: The RFR was dropped of in-person by Joe and handed to Mary Jordan to meet the
deadline. The commission also acknowledged it appreciation for the support of Barbara Parente in helping to
prepare the grant package in time to meet the deadline.

5. Mission Statement: The commission revised and then unanimously approved by those in attendance (Held,
Kovacs, Storbeck) the mission and goals for 2008 as indicated below:

Mission Statement
o Through education and promotion, encourage the pursuit of agriculture and create awareness of
Bolton’s agricultural activities. Protect farmlands within the Town of Bolton. Provide a resource for
resolution of conflicts with abutters and Town agencies.


CY08 Goals

1. Promote agriculture businesses in town to benefit local farmers, farm stands and farm related
businesses.

2. Establish a program to facilitate education for both farmers and residents in Bolton on farming
and co-existence.

3. Conduct inventory of parcels of land in agriculture and key attributes of such activity. Merge data
with town’s annual livestock inventory.

4. Promote agriculture through liaison activities with town boards.

5. Meet quarterly with abutting towns on agricultural issues jointly affecting the towns.

6. Find opportunities for funding which support Agricultural Committee’s activities.

7. Meeting Schedule:
Meet with Cons Trust: Tuesday, March 11th at 8:15 pm at Emerson.
Meet with Selectmen: Wednesday, January 9 at 7:45 pm at Town Hall.
Agricultural Day @ State House: Tuesday, February 18th (details attached)
Next AgComm meeting: Tuesday, February 18 at 7:30 pm at Town Hall.
