The Advisory Committee met at the Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. to attend the Board of Selectmen’s meeting to finalize the warrant for the Annual Town Meeting on May 2, 2011.
On a motion made by Czekanski and seconded by Benjamin, the Advisory Committee voted to disapprove the Citizen’s Petition to accept General Laws, Chapter 59, Section 5, Clause 57 to provide property tax relief. (Dinjian - yes, Czekanski – yes, Benajmin – yes, Abdalian – yes)
The Board of Selectmen and Advisory Committee stated that they were sympathetic to the concept of a lower rate for middle and lower income seniors, but more time is required for the Board of Assessors to evaluate the impact of this proposed change on the town’s finances. Both the Board and Committee felt that there was no advantage to approving it now, because this particular clause does not become effective until FY2013.
