School Board Minutes 9/8/2016

                                                                                September 8, 2016
                        
                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Nicole Plourde, Scott Losier, Louise Valliere Lynn Moore, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Julie King, Amy Huter, Tim Forestall, Tammy Fauteux, Martha Miller, Kevin Carpenter,  Roland & Cheryl Pinette, and a member of the press.

MINUTES         On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the August 18, 2016, August 24, 2016 and August 26, 2016 meetings public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.

WARRANTS                On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, September 11, 2016 and September 12, 2016 for the amounts of $17,949.27, and $659,196.85. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

FINANCIAL REPORT        The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.

COMMENTS                None

AREA WITHDRAWAL The Superintendent reported on the progress of the AREA Withdrawal Committee. She informed the Board that they have reviewed other tuition agreements and were looking to incorporate language from what they found. Nicole Plourde stated they were looking to craft language that would benefit everyone.


SUPER’S REPORT        The Superintendent informed the Board of the following issues:

  • First Day Enrollment increased by 10 students. She informed the Board that there are currently 64 Home Schooled Students, compared to last year’s total of 32. This is an unprecedented high number.
  • BHS Backers extended an invitation to the Board to participate in the Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 30, 2016.
  • The Annual Joint Meeting between, Berlin, Milan, and Dummer will be held on October 4, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Milan Village School.
        
COMMENTS                None

MEMBER BUSINESS Scott Losier asked if the Administration could standardize the signature line on emails. He also asked to have standardized school colors, example being same red, black, and white in all district buildings.
                                                                                
NON PUBLIC              On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 6:30 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

                        On a motion by Scott Losier, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 7:50 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.

STAFFING                On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to approve the following staffing changes:

ADJOURN         On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 7:53 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.

NONPUBLIC SESSION
September 8, 2016


On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 6:30 pm in accordance with RSA 91-A3II (a), (b), and (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.


The Board discussed staffing.

The Board discussed a legal issue regarding a student


On a motion by Scott Losier, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 7:50 p.m.~  The motion passed unanimously.~
