A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Nicole Plourde, Denise Valerino, Scott Losier, Louise Valliere, Lynn Moore, Corinne Cascadden, Amy Huter, Dan Record, Kevin Carpenter, Julie King, Martha Miller, Roland & Cheryl Pinette, and Debora Payeur.
MINUTES On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the May 5, 2016 meeting, public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANT On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to approve the warrant dated, May 23, 2016 for the amount of $235,050.56. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.
COMMENTS None
FED/STATE GRANTS On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Scott Losier the Board voted to authorize the Superintendent to accept monies for federal and state grants that occur during the 2016-2017 school year and to authorize Corinne Cascadden and Bryan Lamirande to sign federal accounting forms for SAU #3. The motion passed unanimously.
BOARD CONFERENCE Lynn Moore expressed how amazing the National School Board Association National Conference was how happy she was that some of the Board members and the Superintendent were able to attend. Three of the Board members commented on some of the workshops they attended. Lynn Moore especially liked the Understanding Poverty session; Louise Valliere liked Music in our Schools, and Nicole Plourde found it to be a great experience and was intrigued by a DNA testing kit that was used in some schools.
AREA-MOU On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the changes in the Best Interest of the Child procedures as presented in the Memorandum of Understanding with Milan. The motion passed unanimously.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board on the following issues:
- End of the School Year Activities
- “Your Skin is In” Pledge contest at BHS
- BHS – Valedictorian – Trevor Labecque
Salutatorian – Chelsey Caron
CTE – Kayleigh Eastman
- Middle School Principal Search Committee (Scott Losier will be Board Representative)
- City Budget – Wednesday May 25, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.
COMMENTS Julie King commented on how Hillside had added band and chorus to their curriculum and how well it was going.
MEMBER BUSINESS Nicole Plourde thanked Kevin Carpenter for allowing the Androscoggin Coaltion – North Country Listens to hold a proactive community event at the high school.
Nicole Plourde gave kudos to the trained staff, and parents who aided a student and the availability of AEDs in the schools. She was also informed that Matt Keene, who was instrumental in having AEDs available in the schools, was notified of the life that was saved due to his efforts.
Nicole Plourde read part of a letter from Linda Morris, praising the efforts of Adrienne Backer and Jill Poulin during the Health-a-Rama that was presented to the Berlin Middle School.
NON-PUBLIC On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 6:40 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Louise Valliere seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 7:35 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.
STAFFING On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the following staffing changes:

NON-UNION On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to approve the Non-Union Salaries and Benefits as presented. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
ADJOURN On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 7:38 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
