A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Nicole Plourde, Denise Valerino, Scott Losier, Louise Valliere, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Amy Huter, Dan Record, Kevin Carpenter, Tim Forestall, Julie King, Martha Miller, Roland & Cheryl Pinette, Autie Hamilton, Dana DeBlois, Kayla Steady, Lauren Frenette, Melissa Frenette, Peter Donovan, Susanne Styles, Randy Messineo, and a member of the press.
NH TEACHER 2016 NH Teacher of the Year nominees Randy Messineo and Susanne Styles, showed the Board a presentation they gave at a ceremony honoring nominees.
MINUTES On a motion by Scott Losier, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the April 14, 2016 meeting, public session. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANT On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to approve the warrant dated, May 9, 2016 for the amount of $273,529.19. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.
COMMENTS None
INFO TECHNOLOGY Autie Hamilton shared general information on the district’s technology plan. Kayla Steady and Lauren Frenette shared the filming of a class project on the French Revolution.
BASKETBALL Dana DeBlois and Julie King explained how the current grade 3 & 4 Hillside basketball program is run on a volunteer basis. They also presented the Board with a cost estimate to implement the program on a smaller level than the grades 5-8 programs.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board on the following issues:
- Jensyn Dandeneau named 2016 Top 100 Players in USA for High School Field Hockey
- Article in District Administrator magazine featured the Berlin Public Schools efforts to curb opioid addiction
- I Am College/Bound/I Applied
COMMENTS Peter Donovan commented on how pleased he was with what he witnessed at this meeting.
MEMBER BUSINESS Nicole Plourde would like to see a senior walk. Once graduating seniors from Berlin High School receive their caps and gowns, she would like to see them walk through the elementary schools..
NON-PUBLIC On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 7:04 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Scott Losier, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 8:24 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.
BASKETBALL On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Louise Valliere the Board voted to approve the implementation of a grade 3 and 4 basketball program. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
STAFFING On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the following staffing changes:

Liza Aldrich – Hillside Elementary School Teacher
Lise Gagnon – Hillside Elementary School Teacher
Jesse Oberg – Music/Chorus Teacher – District

The motion passed unanimously.
ADJOURN On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 8:25 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.

NONPUBLIC SESSIONS
May 5, 2016
On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 7:04 pm in accordance with RSA 91-A3II (a), (b), and (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
The Board reviewed staff resignations and potential reorganizing plans.
The Board reviewed and chose the recipients of the Berlin Board of Education Scholarship.
On a motion by Scott Losier, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 8:24 pm in accordance with RSA 91-A3II (a), (b), and (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
