A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Scott Losier, Lynn Moore, Denise Valerino, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Amy Huter, Kevin Carpenter, Julie King, Autie Hamilton, Cheryl and Roland Pinette, SRO Steven Arsenault , Sgt. Nathan Roy, and a member of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the March 31, 2016 meeting, public session. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Scott Losier, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, April 11, 2016 and April 18, 2016 for the amounts of $13,374.33 and $327,629.52. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The Board reviewed and approved the financial report
COMMENTS None
A.L.I.C.E. TRAINING Berlin Police Officers Steve Arsenault and Nathan Roy gave the Board a presentation on the Active Shooter Response Program A.L.I.C. E. On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to have Berlin Public Schools become an A.L.I.C.E. trained district. The motion passed unanimously.
BHS COURSES On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to approve the following new courses at Berlin High School:
- Introduction to Screen Printing
- College Composition
- Criminology
- AP History
The motion passed unanimously.
MANUALS On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to approve the 2016-2017
Staff and Student/Parent Manuals as presented. The motion passed unanimously.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board on the following issues:
- PBIS Rollout Videos on culture and climate in classrooms, hallways and cafeteria
- FY17 School Board Meetings
COMMENTS None
MEMBER BUSINESS Denise Valerino, asked about the Grade 3 & 4 Basketball Program. She was informed that it was tabled and can be placed on the May 5, 2016 agenda.
Lynn Moore talked about the National School Board Conference she attended and informed the Board that she would like to do a presentation on what she experienced during this conference at the next School Board meeting.
NON-PUBLIC The Board consensus was that a nonpublic session was not required at this meeting.
STAFFING On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Scott Losier, the Board voted to approve the following staffing changes:
