A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Corinne Cascadden, Nicole Plourde, Denise Valerino, Louise Valliere, Bryan Lamirande, Tim Forestall, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Dan Record, Amy Huter, Julie King, Gary Bisson, Russell Otis, Paula Benski, Gary Peters, Debbie Beaudoin, Stephanie Roy, James Michalik, Sharon Michalik, Heather Kaufman, Judy Arsenault, Lindsay Demers, Trista Bruns and a member of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the December 4, 2014 meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, December 15 and December 22, 2014 for the amounts of $15,474.68 and $188,703.30. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.
COMMENTS Russell Otis, Gary Peters, and Stephanie Roy informed the Board that they felt elections should not be held in school buildings as a matter of safety.
AFTER SCHOOL James Michalik and Judy Arsenault gave the Board a presentation updating them on the After School Program and the 21st Century grant.
FY 16 CALENDAR On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to approve the 2015-2016 school year calendar as presented by the Superintendent. The motion passed unanimously.
ELECTIONS The Superintendent reported on the issues with having the elections in the school buildings. The School Board Chair also spoke against elections in the schools. The Board directed the Superintendent to schedule a meeting between the Council and the School Board to discuss and to review the City Charter to see what rights the Board has to take action on this issue. The goal is to work with the Council, but safety is priority.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board on the following issues:
- Berlin City Auto Group Grant Awards
Hillside School $2500
BHS/BMS Band $1500
COMMENTS Paula Benski informed the Board that she does not support having four voting sites in the City. She has worked the polls at Brown School and felt elections in the school are a serious safety issue. We need to get the elections out of the school that is the bottom line
Roland Pinette informed the Board that the CTE Department received a $500 grant to expand robotics in our Program.
Julie King thanked the staff for an excellent job with the After School Program.

NON PUBLIC On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 6:35p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 7:25 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No votes were taken in nonpublic session.
STAFFING On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to approve the following staffing changes:

All nominations are contingent on the applicant passing a background check.
The motion passed unanimously.
ADJOURN On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 7:30 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
