A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Corinne Cascadden, Nicole Plourde, Louise Valliere, Lynn Moore, Donald Labrecque, Bryan Lamirande, Tim Forestall, Martha Miller, Autie Hamilton, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Ann Nolin, Dan Record, Amy Huter, Julie King, Gary Bisson, and member of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the August 14, 2014 meeting as amended, public and non- public sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, September 2, September 8, and September 9, 2014 for the amounts of $5,862.78, $191,137.30 and $24,848.58 respectively. Questions were answered regarding Indirect Costs and legal fees.On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.
COMMENTS None
STATE SCHOLARS The issue of whether the Valedictorian and Salutatorian at Berlin High School meet the requirements needed to be named a Granite State Scholar was discussed. The high school administration provided information on these standards.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board of the following:
- First Day Enrollment – Down by 58 students
- Homecoming list of events
- KUNO Roll out Schedule
- Presentation of Brown School Project at September 15th City Council Meeting
COMMENTS None
MEMBER BUSINESS Nicole Plourde wants the issue of all-day kindergarten back on the agenda regularly over the course of the year; along with on-going updates to make it happen for FY16.
Donald Labrecque would like to see Individual Sports on the agenda to see if it is something the administrators support. He would also like to hear the High School Athletic Director’s opinion on the issue. The Board agreed to place it on the next agenda.
Louise Valliere had questions and concerns on two of the questions on the Board Evaluation Report.
NON PUBLIC The Board consensus was that a non-public session was not necessary.
STAFFING On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to approve the following staffing changes:
