A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Corinne Cascadden, Nicole Plourde, Louise Valliere, Lynn Moore, Denise Valerino, Bryan Lamirande, Tim Forestall, Roland Pinette, Amy Huter, Julie King, Gary Bisson, and member of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the July 17, 2014 meeting, public and non- public sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Denise Valerino, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, August 4, August 18, and August 19, 2014 for the amounts of $4,912.75, $406,491.42 and $13,510.19 respectively. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.

HOT LUNCH On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to approve the following hot lunch prices:
Breakfast $1.65
Lunch 1-5 $2.60
Lunch 6-12 $2.85
Lunch Adult $3.40
Milk $ .40
Bryan Lamirande presented the Food Service Financial Report to the Board. He informed the Board of delinquent payments, and how he was utilizing the small claims court to recover some of these monies.
BOARD EVAL The Superintendent discussed Board evaluations and strengths and informed the Board that some Board policies should be reviewed as best practice.
NEGOTIATION The Board reviewed a letter they received from BESS of their intent to negotiate and discussed if there would be any Board participation in these negotiations.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board of the following:

COMMENTS The press reminded the Board of the August 21, 2014 deadline for parent information to be placed in the Berlin Daily Sun.
MEMBER BUSINESS Denise Valerino asked about better access to the school calendar on the school website. The school calendar will be on the main page.
Nicole Plourde would like to see a policy to ensure that the Valedictorian and Salutatorian be Granite State Scholars. Gary Bisson will provide the Board with data for their further review.
The Superintendent reviewed budget cuts in the FY15 budget process and the savings from retirements and new hires. She recommended that we apply the savings to hiring a full time nurse at Hillside School. On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to hire a full time nurse. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
NON PUBLIC On a motion by Denise Valerion, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 635 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Denise Valerion, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 6:53 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session

OMS/IT GUIDELINES On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to approve the updated Guidelines for the Central Office OMS and IT Technician. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
ADJOURN On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Denise Valerino, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 6:55 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
