School Board Minutes 11/7/2013

                                                                                November 7, 2013
                        
                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Nicole Plourde, Lynn Moore, Louise Valliere, Donald Labrecque, Kenneth Proulx, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Georgia Caron, Amy Huter, Julie King, Gary Bisson, Dan Record, Tim Forestall, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Ann Nolin, Craig Melanson, Mike Poulin, Dave Morrissette, and students.

MINUTES         On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the October 17, 2013 meeting, public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.

WARRANTS                On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, November 4, 2013 and November 11, 2013 for the amounts of $14,577.15 and $356,546.30. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

FINANCIAL REPORT        The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.

COMMENTS                None

AREA AGREEMENT  The Board reviewed the status of the AREA Agreement Committee discussions. The Superintendent will review Berlin Public Schools’ options with the State.
                                        
GIRLS SOCCER            The BHS Athletic Department requested Board approval to expand the current Girls JV Soccer program to a Varsity level sport. The estimated cost of the program is $7,087. On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to approve the Girls Varsity Soccer program. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

SUPER’S REPORT  The Superintendent informed the Board of the following issues:

  • Common Core- Video Clip from WMUR- TV
  • Update of Wellness Committee Activities
  • Student Recognition
  • Congratulations to Girls Field Hockey Team Championship
  • Congratulations to all elected and re-elected to the School Board
COMMENTS                None
                        
NEW BUSINESS            Donald Labrecque congratulated the Girls Field Hockey Team.
                                                                
NON PUBLIC              On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 6:35 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

                        On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 7:17 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session

STAFFING                On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the following staffing changes:

                        The motion passed unanimously.          
                        All nominations are contingent on the applicant passing a background check.
                        
ADJOURN         On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 7:21 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
