A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Kenneth Proulx, Nicole Plourde, Lynn Moore, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Georgia Caron, Amy Huter, Julie King, Tim Forestall, Candy Richard, Heidi Barker, Amelia Alton, Patricia Packard, Celine Leborgne, and members of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the July 18, 2013, July 24, 2013, and August 1, 2013, meetings, public sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, August 12, 2013, August 18, 2013, and August 19, 2013 for the amounts of $6,380.27,$6,752.05 and $372,510.18 respectively. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The Board reviewed and approved the financial reports for Fiscal Year 2013 and Fiscal Year 2014.

SCHOOL NUTRITION Candy Richard and Heidi Barker reviewed the new school nutrition USDA guidelines and the work accomplished by the Food Service Department to meet these guidelines. They also looked for support to participate in the Healthy School Challenge.
REPORT CARDS Amy Huter presented new report cards for Brown School. She reviewed a new rubric to be used aligned with Common Core State Standards. A motion was made by Lynne Moore, seconded by Kenneth Proulx to approve the new report cards as presented for Brown School. The motion passed unanimously.
FLEXIBILITY WAIVER The Superintendent presented the impact to the school district in moving away from NCLB to the approved ESEA Flexibility Waiver.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board of the following issues:

NEW BUSINESS Nicole Plourde and Lynn Moore thanked the staff for the hard work accomplished in meeting new State and Federal Standards. They were pleased with the advancements the District is making, especially in technology.
The Superintendent informed the Board that the Joint meeting with Berlin, Milan & Dummer will be held at the October 17, 2013 Board meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the Berlin High School library.
NON PUBLIC On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 7:30 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 8:10 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.
STAFFING On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to approve the following staffing changes:

The motion passed unanimously.
On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to approve the nomination of Rebecca Boutin as a Math Teacher at BMS. Kenneth Proulx and Lynn Moore voted in the affirmative, with Nicole Plourde voting in the negative. The motion passed by a 2 to 1 margin.
On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to grant an additional step to the new Music Teacher due to her date of certification. The motion passed unanimously.
All nominations are contingent on the applicant passing a background check.
ADJOURN On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 8:15 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
