A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Nicole Plourde, Kenneth Proulx, Donald Labrecque, Lynn Moore, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Tim Forestall, Amy Huter, Dan Record, Elizabeth Deen, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Ted McCormick, Amy Bugeau, Patricia Packard, Celine Leborgne, Lucille Lambert, and member of
the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the April 18, 2013 meeting, public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, April 29, 2013 and May 6, 2013 for the amounts of $4,077.95 and $258,164.84. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.
COMMENTS None
POLICY REVISION On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the revision of Policy BEA – Regular Board Meetings as recommended. The motion passed unanimously.
FY 14 BUDGET The Superintendent informed the Board of the current budget situation and the cost saving measures taken to date. She also reminded the Board of the costs shifted from the City to the School Department and that she will post the vacant positions that need to be filled.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board of the following issues:
- Amy Huter, Amy Bugeau, and Patricia Packard informed the Board of the functions of the Multi-age classrooms at Brown School and reported encouraging progress on the process.
- NEAS&C Accreditation
COMMENTS Ted McCormick inquired about the multi-age classrooms and how they differed from last year. He also requested information on how the students would transition into third grade since there is no multi-age classroom at Hillside.
Amy Huter informed Mr. McCormick that multi-age is about children learning to be accepting of all students and that they will all work together in third grade.
Ted McCormick commented on how the Reading Rodeo at Hillside was well received.
Liz Deen reported that there was a huge parent turnout at the Rodeo and DARE events.
NEW BUSINESS None
NON PUBLIC On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 6:45 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 7:55 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.
STAFFING On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to approve the following staff changes:
RETIREMENT:
Theresa Giroux, Speech Assistant, Hillside School
The motion passed unanimously.
On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve a leave of absence request for one year for Christine Lindsey. The motion passed unanimously.
ADJOURN On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 7:58 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
