A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Louise Valliere, Kenneth Proulx, Nicole Plourde, Donald Labrecque, Nathan Morin, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Amy Huter, Elizabeth Deen, Dan Record, Gary Bisson, Tim Forestall, Georgia Caron, Roland Pinette, Ted McCormick, and members of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the December 20, 2012 meeting, public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the warrant dated January 7, 2013 for the amount of $399,231.77. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

COMMENTS None
1st RDG POLICIES On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the first reading of policies, JHA – Student Insurance Program, and JICH – Drug and Alcohol Use by Students. The motion passed unanimously.
2nd RDG POLICIES On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to approve the second reading of Policies, JICA – Student Dress Code, JICD – Student Discipline, JICI – Weapons on Property, JIE – Pregnant Students, JIH – Student Searches, JQA – Care of School Property. The motion passed unanimously.
FY 14 BUDGET Corinne Cascadden informed the Board that the State notified her that our Adequacy Aid will be cut by $93,102 for this fiscal year.
Budget Highlights were reviewed.
The administrators reviewed major increases and decreases to their respective building budgets.
Discussion ensued regarding Capital Improvement Projects and expiring Bond Payments for previous roof construction.
Board members feel priority should be given to ensure technology access to all students and what cost is involved. The administration will survey the students on hardware and internet access.
Discussion ensued on replacing textbooks versus using downloadable texts.
The Board will prepare the budget for the public hearing at the January 17, 2013 Board meeting.
COMMENTS None
NEW BUSINESS Nathan Morin reminded the Board that if their terms were ending this year, to consider running for re-election.

ADJOURN On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 8:03 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
