School Board Minutes 12/20/2012
December 20, 2012
                        
                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Louise Valliere, Kenneth Proulx, Nicole Plourde, Donald Labrecque,  Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Amy Huter, Elizabeth Deen, Gary Bisson, Tim Forestall, Jane Provencher, Roland Pinette, Autie Hamilton, and members of the press.

MINUTES         On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the December 6, 2012 meeting, public session. The motion passed unanimously.

WARRANTS                On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the warrant dated December 24, 2012 for the amount of $117,297.16. Discussion ensued regarding whiting out the names of people receiving reimbursement from Food Services. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

FINANCIAL REPORT        None

COMMENTS                None

SCHOOL CALENDAR On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the 2013-2014 School Year Calendar as presented. The motion passed unanimously.

1st RDG POLICIES        On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the first reading of Policies, JICA – Student Dress Code, JICD – Student Discipline, JICI – Weapons on Property, JIE – Pregnant Students, JIH – Student Searches, JQA – Care of School Property. The motion passed unanimously.

2nd RDG POLICIES        On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the second reading of Policies, JFA – Residency, JAAA – Admission of Resident Students, JFAB – Admission of Tuition Students, JFABD – Admission of Homeless Students, JFABB – Foreign Exchange Students, JHC – Student Early Release, JI – Students Rights and Responsibilities, JIA – Student Due Process, JIB – Student Involvement, JIBA – Student Government, JIC – Student Conduct, JCA – Change of School or Assignment, JEC – Manifest Educational Hardship. The motion passed unanimously.
        
SUPER’S REPORT  IT Director, Autie Hamilton, informed the Board of the Technology upgrades including the ability to have guest wireless internet, most servers have been upgraded, and all computers upgraded to the latest software and the testing of Windows 8. The Board inquired about the ability for students to bring their own devices to school.

COMMENTS                None
                        
NEW BUSINESS            Louise Valliere commented on how nice the wreaths looked at Brown School. Nicole Plourde asked about the safety drills that the students and staff practice.
                        
NON PUBLIC              On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 7:30 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

                        On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 7:30 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.

STAFFING                On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted not to conduct a search for a principal at Berlin Middle School and to offer a contract to the current interim Principal. The motion passed unanimously.
                        
ADJOURN         On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 7:33 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
