A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Louise Valliere, Kenneth Proulx, Nathan Morin, Donald Labrecque, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Dan Record, Elizabeth Deen, Craig Melanson, Gary Bisson, Roland and Cheryl Pinette, and members of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the September 6, 2012 meeting, public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, September 17, September 24, and September 25, 2012 for the amounts of $1,448.39, $63,882.04, and $127,137.78 respectively. Discussion ensued regarding the North Country Charter Academy expenditure and roof repairs. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

2nd RDG POLICIES On a motion by Louise Valliere, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the second reading of Policies – JKAA – Use of Restraints, JKAA-R – Incident Report Form, IKF-R- 20 Credit State Diploma, IHBH – Extended Learning Opportunities, IHBI – Alternative Learning Plans. The motion passed unanimously.
1st RDF I POLICIES On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Louise Valliere, the Board voted to approve the first reading of Policies-IHBH-R – Extended Opportunity Application, and IHBH-R2 – Extending Learning Obligation of Participants as amended. The motion passed unanimously.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board of the following issues:
- Dummer/Milan Joint Meeting
- Implementation of IDEA Assessment
- Race to the Top Update

NEW BUSINESS A presentation was made by Craig Melanson, assisted by Karen Turgeon informing the Board of Special Olympics Project UNIFY. A request was made to create a Unified Basketball Team. On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to create a Unified Basketball team. The motion passed unanimously.
