School Board Minutes 04/07/2010
April 7, 2010
                
                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Brown School gym beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were, Nicole Plourde, Linda Pivin, Mitch Couture, Martha Laflamme, Corinne Cascadden, Marion Huntley, Jane Provencher, Ken Proulx, Amy Huter,  Julie King, Roland Simard, Georgia Caron, Beverly Dupont,  Angela Duquette, Mark Evans, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Dan Record, Jay Tolman, Nancy Aube, Debbie Dupuis, Aarron Dupuis, Hailey Gabicki, Cassie Cummings, Gabby Murphy, Mildred Arinella, Celine Leborgne, Tim Forestall,  and members of the press.

MINUTES         On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the March 17, 2010 meeting public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.

WARRANTS                On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated March 22, April 5, and April 12, 2010 for the amounts of $96,387.93, $5,361.12, $294,627.64 and $48.00 respectively.   On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.  

FINANCIAL REPORT        The financial report was reviewed by Marion Y Huntley and accepted by the Board.
                        
COMMENT         A parent expressed her concern regarding students being required to attend a community meeting as part of their course.
                        
2nd  RDG C POLICIES     On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the second reading of the enclosed C Policies. The motion passed unanimously.

2nd  RDG J POLICIES     On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the second reading of the enclosed J Policies as amended. The motion passed unanimously.

PORTRAIT BID            On a motion by Nicole Ploude, seconded by Linda Pivin the Board voted to award the School Portrait Bid for the 2010-2011, 2011-2012, and 2012-2013 school years to Geskus Photography. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

SUPER REPORT            The Principal Amy Huter gave the Board and meeting attendees a tour of Brown School.

NEW BUSINESS            None
                                                        
NON PUBLIC              On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 6:16 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

                        On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 8:50 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.

STAFFING                On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Nicole Plourde the Board voted to accept the following staffing changes:

                        Diane Brodeur-Fossa – Special Education Teacher - BJHS

                        NOMINATIONS:

                        Bryan Lamirande – Business Administrator – District (Remainder of 2010 fiscal year and the
                                                                                                                                      2011 fiscal year)
                        Patty Hood – Girls Tennis Coach – BHS
                        Mandy Lafleur – Grade 7 Softball Coach
                        Jamason Levesque – Grade 7 Baseball Coach

                        RENOMINATIONS:

                        Tony Morin – Grade 8 Softball Coach
                        Steve MacArthur – Grade 8 Baseball Coach
                        Justin Jacques – Grade 7/8 Boys & Girls Track Coach

                        The enclosed listing of staff renominations for the 2010-2011 school year.

                        On a roll call vote, Mitch Couture, Nicole Plourde, and Linda Pivin voted in the affirmative; Martha Laflamme voted in the negative. The motion passed by a 3 to 1 margin.

                        All nominations are contingent on the applicant passing a criminal record check.

RETIREMENT              On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Linda Pivin the Board directed the administration to investigate the possibility of creating an early retirement incentive to offer employees in the hope of saving some positions.
                        
                                                        
ADJOURN         On a motion Martha Laflamme, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 8:51 p.m. The motion passed unanimously
