A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were, Nicole Plourde, Linda Pivin, Mitch Couture, Martha Laflamme, Corinne Cascadden, Marion Huntley, Beverly Dupont, Gary Bisson, Jane Provencher, Ken Proulx, Amy Huter, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Lucille Lambert, Angela Duquette, Jan Millis, Derek Leclerc, Ron Demers, and member of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the February 3, 2010 meeting public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated February 15, and February 22, 2010 for the amounts of $10,795.81 and $163,283.45. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The financial report was reviewed by Marion Y Huntley.
COMMENTS Derek Leclerc and Ron Demers gave the Board information on their nonprofit company that helps schools with fundraising. This company will allow students the opportunity to earn points toward scholarships. Students can start as early as kindergarten. The company is known as Incentives. More information will be given to the schools.
2nd READINGS On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the Second Reading of Policies – AA – Legal Status, AA-E – City Charter, ABA – Volunteer Involvement ,AD – District Philosophy, ADC – Tobacco Products, ADD – Safe Schools, AE – Accountability. The motion passed unanimously.
TRUANT OFFICER On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to appoint Detective Keith Enman as the district truancy officer. The Superintendent gave information to the Board on state requirements and the efforts between the school and police departments relative to truancy. The motion passed unanimously.
NH SCHOLARS This item was deferred to another meeting when all members and Guidance Counselors are in attendance.
FY 11 BUDGET The Superintendent gave the Board additional information on budget needs not included in the 2010-2011 request. A city budget schedule was distributed. Plan A has been developed and was summarized by the Superintendent in the event the district needed to reduce the budget by one million dollars. Discussion ensued including the budget presentation format. The Board will present the budget to the city council. Further discussion will be held at the March 3, 2010 meeting.

COMMENTS None
NEW BUSINESS Linda Pivin commented on how well the Family Literacy Night was presented and very well attended. She also commented on how the BJHS basketball tournament was well attended and extremely successful.
NON PUBLIC On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 7:00 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a) On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 7:20 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.

ADJOURN On a motion Nicole Plourde, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 7:23 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
