School Board Minutes 01/27/2010
January 27, 2010
                
                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were, Nicole Plourde,  Martha Laflamme, Karin Dorval, Linda Pivin, Corinne Cascadden, Marion Huntley, Beverly Dupont, Dan Record, Gary Bisson, Tim Forestall, Georgia Caron, Jane Provencher, Ken Proulx, Amy Huter, Barbara Tetreault, Angela Duquette, and Nathan Morin.

MINUTES         On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the January 13 and January 20, 2010 meetings public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.

WARRANTS                On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Linda Pivin, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated January 19 and February 1, 2010 for the amounts of $4,696.17 and $363,926.77 respectively. Questions were answered on legal fees. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.  
                        
COMMENTS                None
                        
2nd READINGS            On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board approved the Second Reading of Policies BAA – Evaluation of Board Operations and BAA-R – Evaluation of School Board.  Discussion ensued regarding the Board evaluation process. It was suggested that the evaluation be done in the late fall. The motion passed unanimously.

SUPER REPORT            The Superintendent gave the Board an update on the following issues:

•       Traffic Safety Committee; has placed the schools and downtown at the top of the snow removal list. A yellow blinking light at Brown School has also been discussed.
•       Mt. Jasper Conservation Easement
•       The school delay and closure procedure was explained.           
                                                
FY11 BUDGET             Corinne Cascadden asked the Board if they had any directives regarding the budget that will be presented at the public hearing on February 3, 2010. The Board requested that the handouts given at the last Board meeting be included in the public hearing book. Further discussion ensued. Linda Pvin clarified that no additional positions were included in the current budget request.  On a Board consensus, the current request will be presented at the public hearing.
                                                
COMMENTS                Questions were answered on the budget bottom line and the additional positions that were not included in the budget.

STAFFING                On a motion by Linda Pivin, seconded by Karin Dorval, the Board voted to accept the following staffing changes:

Chantal Rigg – Maternity Leave
                                                        
ADJOURN         On a motion Martha Laflamme, seconded by Karin Dorval, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 6:23 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
