A meeting of the Berlin, Milan, and Dummer Boards of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Martha Laflamme, Nicole Plourde, Brian Leclerc, Corinne Cascadden, Marion Huntley, Tim Forestall, Beverly Dupont, Dan Record, Amy Huter, Mary Ann Letarte, Gabby Letarte, Steve Gordon, Paul Bousquet, Sandy Pouliot, Trisha Shute, Elizabeth Ruediger, Julie Glover, Dick Lafleur, Kim Hockmeyer, Pauline Plourde, Mrs. Dube, Jackie Quintal, Kevin Evans, and members of the press.
DISCUSSION Utilizing resources more efficiently and effectively was discussed including regionalization throughout the valley.
The Milan Board is also watching the issue of grades 7 & 8 going to Berlin High School and if that would happen they are concerned with making sure that these changes still meet the needs of students .Everyone is aware of the fiscal constraints facing the area.
The Boards are currently working together; they would like this to continue and possibly expand.
The issue of regionalization versus consolidation was discussed.
An inventory of what is already shared will be developed along with working on efficiency.
The Boards addressed the need to hear from all the communities involved. The configurations and options are wide open.
COMMENTS Jackie Quintal mentioned the option of a junior high in Gorham and a high school in Berlin. Also, the communities and the public need to be made aware of this ongoing discussion.
