A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Mitch Couture, Martha Laflamme, Nicole Plourde, Marion Y. Huntley, Corinne Cascadden, Beverly Dupont, Dan Record, Gary Bisson, Georgia Caron, Roland Pinette, Jane Provencher, Angela Duquette, Amy Huter, Cheryl Pinette, Stephanie Hogan, Carrie Poirier, Celine Leborgne, Rachel and Travis Croteau, Isabel Neal, Mr. Atwood, and members of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the May 20 and May 28, 2009 meetings, public and non public sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated June 1 and June 8, 2009 for the amounts of $321.63 and $125,924.31 respectively. Discussion ensued regarding bus repairs along with sills and countertops. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The Board reviewed the Financial Report.

GBEC, EEAEA On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the second reading of Policies GBEC and EEAEA , Drug Free Workplace and Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing for School Bus Drivers. The motion passed unanimously.
GRANTS On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Nathan Morin the Board voted to authorize Corinne Cascadden to apply for and accept monies for Federal and State grants that will occur during the 2009-2010 school year and to allow Corinne Cascadden and Marion Y. Huntley to sign the federal accounting forms for SAU #3. The motion passed unanimously.
EARLY GRADUATION Gary Bisson gave the Board information on the state’s view of early graduation. He also gave the Board his recommendation to approve Travis Croteau and Sabrina Atwood’s request for early graduation as presented in their packet. Mr. Bisson explained how these requests are becoming more frequent and that it is not viewed negatively. On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to approve the early graduation requests from Travis Croteau and Sabrina Atwood. The motion passed unanimously.
READING FIRST Cheryl Pinette and staff presented their overview of the Reading First Program and what has happened over the last six years, emphasizing 10 key areas.

NEW BUSINESS The Board Chair received a letter from a citizen regarding the selection process for CTE programs. The CTE Director and High School Principal met with this citizen to explain the process and the reason the current process is being utilized. They gave the Board history of the selection process. The administration answered the Board’s questions and explained the rationale behind the process. Discussion ensued.
NON PUBLIC On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 6:48 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II (a). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 7:35 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session.
STAFFING On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to approve the following staffing changes:

ADJOURN On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 7:36 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
