School Board Minutes 10/15/2008

                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Office of the Superintendent beginning at 6:34 a.m. Present for the meeting were Mitch Couture, Martha Laflamme, Nathan Morin, John Moulis, and Marion Huntley.
                        
WARRANTS                A motion was made by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nathan Morin, to approve the warrants dated October 13, and October 22, 2008 for the amounts of $14,510.64 and $160,719.19 respectively. Discussion ensued regarding NHIAA Annual meeting and supplies for the Berlin Junior High shop class. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

NEW BUSINESS    The Board inquired if anything was needed to ensure that technology in math and science at the junior and high school levels were being addressed and updated. If there are any deficiencies that need to be addressed, the Superintendent will bring them to the attention of the Board at their next meeting.

                        The Board also requested that the Superintendent look into the feasibility of Berlin and Gorham using the same bus for smaller sports teams going in the same direction.

                        The status of capital improvements was discussed. The administration updated the Board on the efforts to date. Mr. Moulis will take care of the electrical panel replacement.

STAFFING                On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to accept the following staffing changes:

Renee Stewart - Bus Driver - District
Rebecca L'Heureux - Individual Aide - Brown School
Justin Jacques - Individual Aide - Brown School

After reviewing the nominations, the Board emphasized that in the future more thorough, varied, and unbiased references be conducted.

All nominations are contingent on the applicant passing a criminal record check. The motion passed unanimously.

The Board reviewed a letter from a substitute in the district requesting the Board review the current policy on the payment of long-term substitutes. The Board decided to remain with the current policy. The substitute will be notified in writing of this decision by the Superintendent.   
                                                                                                
ADJOURN         On a motion by Nathan Morin, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to adjourn it's meeting at 7:40 a.m. The motion passed unanimously.
