A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Mitch Couture, Nicole Plourde, Nathan Morin, Brian Leclerc, John Moulis, Marion Y. Huntley, Steve Michaud, Gary Bisson, Dan Record, Beverly Dupont, Ken Proulx, Roland Pinette, Corinne Cascadden, Cheryl Pinette, Angela Duquette, Julie King, Bridget Gagne, and members of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Nathan Morin, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the September 19, 2007 meeting, public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS A motion was made by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Nathan Morin, to approve the warrants dated October 1, and October 8, 2007 for the amounts of $2,277.81, and $351,508.85 respectively. Discussion ensued regarding the purchase of digital cameras for photography course, the Title I SDE Conference, and mileage reimbursement from the PBIS grant. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative; with Brian Leclerc abstaining due to his arrving at the end of this session.
COMMENTS Bridget Gagne, Hillside After School Program Director, invited everyone to the National Lights On Celebration that will be held at the Glen Ave Gazebo on October 18, 2007 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. All of our schools will be participating in this event.
WEIGHTED GPA Ken Proulx and Julie King presented information on the Weighted GPA and Ranking committee results. Their recommendations are as follows:
1. Keep the present system with modifications
2. Establish a core committee to review the weighting of the courses at BHS with input from department heads and specific subject teachers. This committee’s charge would be to review the weighting of all courses at BHS and to establish consistent guidelines to weight new courses.
3. Continue to include weighted and non weighted academic information on transcripts.
The Board thanked the committee for a job well done.
READING FIRST Cheryl Pinette and Corinne Cascadden gave the Board a presentation on the Reading First Program. It was very well done and much appreciated by the Board.
CARSEY INSTITUTE The Superintendent reported on a program by the Carsey Institute to provide benchmark analysis tracking data on some students. The Superintendent requested Board action to participate in the program beginning in the Spring of 2008. A motion was made by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Nathan Morin, to approve the Superintendent’s request to participate in the Carsey Institute Program. The motion passed unanimously.
SUPER REPORT The GRS Cooperative School Board will meet with the Berlin Board of Education at the beginning of the October 17, 2007 School Board Meeting.
The Superintendent gave the Board information on the Unified Arts Program at BJHS.
The Board was given a copy of the Dummer School withdrawal from the AREA Agreement letter.
The Wireless Technology Program in the city was discussed.
COMMENTS None
NEW BUSINESS Brian Leclerc inquired on the status of the school consolidation efforts. The Superintendent gave the Board an update. It was requested that the Superintendent include a monthly update on the issue, and once the final report is completed, it be shared with the original committee members.
Nicole Plourde thanked the BHS Backers for a wonderful job and all their efforts in the recent homecoming celebration. She was pleased to see school spirit alive and well.
NON PUBLIC On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to go in to nonpublic session at 7:35 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II(a),(b), (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Brian Leclerc, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 8:20 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. There were no additional votes taken in nonpublic session.
STAFFING On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Brian Leclerc, the Board voted to accept the following staffing changes:

ADJOURN On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 8:21 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
