River Day/Wingzilla
Dick Huot explained that two events at Heritage Park, the River Day celebration and Wingzilla, have been brought together into one event. River Day is an opportunity for the community to take pride in the river by celebrating everything from logging to hydros. It is a means of attracting people to the area. The combined event has been moved from August to June and will feature river related events such as a boat parade and paddle contest. Wignzilla is a bbq featuring local chefs competing for the best wing distinction.
Mr. Huot also requested that permission be granted to allow atv’s to ride in to the event on that day only. The Androscoggin River Committee has mapped out a route that would have atv’s traveling from the entrance of Success Pond to Bridge Street and along Main Street to the NFHP. The ride in would bring in another group of people.
Mayor Grenier acknowledged that Mr. Maniscalco wished to address the Council and the consensus was to let him speak to the issue. Mr. Maniscalco said that the City has to recognize problems at the mill site before going forward with site evaluation. Mayor Grenier ended the discussion and when Mr. Maniscalco continued, he was asked to leave.
Councilor McCue suggested that the river event be referred to the traffic and safety committee. He also suggested an alternative route for the atvs. It was determined that the next T & S meeting will be May 23rd and there was concern that it would create a time constraint. Councilor Remillard proposed, in the interest of time, that the route be accepted as presented and if there are problems, they would be corrected next year. Councilor McCue confirmed that the atv route is for one day only. Mr. MacQueen noted that the PD has led a group of atvs in a past event.
Councilor Remillard moved to allow the atv ride in for one day, Saturday, June 18, on an extended trail as proposed; Councilor Nelson seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Other
Mr. MacQueen distributed a letter from the Community Bible Academy asking to close Sullivan Street for a Bike a Thon and multi-family yard sale which was done with no problems last year. Councilor Danderson moved with a second from Councilor Rozek to allow the church to close the street on Saturday, May 21. So moved, the motion carried.
Non-Meeting per RSA 91-A:2(b) Collective bargaining. Councilor Rozek so moved, Councilor Danderson seconded and the motion carried unanimously by roll call.
Respectfully Submitted,
Susan Tremblay
