Selectmen Minutes 09/22/2014

September 22, 2014

The meeting of the Board of Selectmen was called to order at 6:45 p.m. by Chairman Connor with all members in attendance.

Mr. Fraine provided the Board with a summary of articles which are before the Finance Committee, which is meeting at 7 p.m.  Mr. Fraine explained all of the requests are contained within the Capital articles and will be funded through Free Cash.

Mr. Fraine updated the Board on the Maple Street parcel of land previously owned by Cobb Realty which currently has a recreational tax exemption.  Mr. Fraine informed the Board he was in the process of contracting with an appraiser to determine the value of the land which must be presented to the owner by October 5.  Mr. Connor asked what the appraisal would cost.  Mr. Fraine answered the estimated cost is $2,000 to $3,000.  All members agreed the appraisal should not be pursued due to the associated cost and the uncertainty of whether the Town would pursue the purchase.

On a Soter/Mayhew motion, the Board unanimously voted to authorize the Chairman to sign all documents associated with the release of the recreational restriction on the Cobb owned property on Maple Street and to abandon any pursuit of purchasing the property.

On a Soter/Spencer motion, the Board unanimously voted to authorize the Town Administrator to execute the Grant of Easement for the Police station located at 30 Blackstone Street.  Mr. Fraine explained this action would allow National Grid to run lines to the new station.

On a Soter/Martinis motion, the meeting adjourned at 7 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Denis C. Fraine
Town Administrator
