Selectmen Minutes 06/05/2012


                                                June 5, 2012



The June 5 meeting of the Board of Selectmen was called to order at 6:30 p.m. with all members in attendance.  Mrs. Mathieu appeared before the Board and presented the bid results for a recent solicitation of B.A.N.s.

On a Mayhew/Featherston motion, the Board unanimously voted to award a B.A.N. for $5,263,871 to Eastern Bank as recommended by Mrs. Mathieu.  The bid results were presented to the Board and have been made a part of these minutes.  

On a Mayhew/Featherston motion, the Board unanimously voted to award a $75,000 B.A.N. to Unibank Savings as presented by Mrs. Mathieu and attached to these minutes.

On a Mayhew/Connor motion, the Board unanimously voted to accept the May 21 minutes as presented.

On a Mayhew/Featherston motion, the Board unanimously approved the Safety Officer’s recommendation to place an “Autism” sign on Elbow Street.  Under discussion, Mr. Connor asked the DPW to remove a similar sign from Bellstone Street and utilize it on Elbow Street as it is no longer needed on Bellstone.

Mr. Fraine notified the Board that he had appointed Jack Walsh to the position of Sealer of Weights and Measures.  Mr. Walsh comes highly recommended from the Town of Ashland and he will be paid $13,000 for this part time position.  Mr. Fraine requested the Board ratify the appointment.  

On a Mayhew/Spencer motion, the Board unanimously voted to ratify Mr. Fraine’s appointment of Jack Walsh to the position of Sealer of Weights and Measures.

On a Mayhew/Featherston motion, the Board unanimously voted to appoint Edward Beauregard, Brendan Campbell and Stephen Foss to the Auxiliary Police Department as recommended by Chief Bartlett.

On a Mayhew/Featherston motion, the Board unanimously voted to open the warrant immediately and close it on July 6.

On a Spencer/Mayhew motion, the Board voted four in favor, and Mr. Soter abstaining, to approve the following abatements:

        Municipal Water       $14,098.41
        Municipal Sewer              645.62
        Residential Water      $14,228.75
        Residential Sewer             218.93

Mr. Fraine informed the Board that the C.O.A. had accepted the Board’s offer to host a barbecue on August 21 at 5:30 p.m.

The Board of Selectmen recessed at 7 p.m. and joined the School Committee for a joint meeting to consider applicants for a vacant position on the School Committee.  The minutes of the joint meeting are attached as recorded by the School Committee Clerk.
