Recreation Committee Minutes 01/22/07

In Attendance: Tina LeVasseur, Brian Bean, Cheryl Bean, Roni Rose
Discussion was had about the up coming budget. Last years programs were discussed, namely the summer recreation program and the swimming lessons which were introduced for the first time last year. Everyone was in agreement that both programs were very successful.
Roni would like to see the summer program hours extended but everyone agreed this would hinge on the new budget approval. We are also in need of a new director for the summer program as Mary Alarie will not be available to run the program this year.
The swim lessons were a huge success and the committee is thinking of adding another day to try to accommodate all interested parties. Everyone agreed that the lessons should take place later in the day because of cooler temperatures in the morning.
Baseball: Tom and Megan Cook have agreed to continue coaching a Becket 'Coaches Pitch' team in affiliation with the Dalton CRA. A T-Ballieague will also be continued with the help ofRoni Rose and Megan Cook.
Soccer: Some residents have expressed interest in having a 'Becket' soccer team. This would also be affiliated with the Dalton CRA but the team could hold practices and a few games in Becket. We will be looking for coaches to make this work.
7:00 p.m. Two of the three lifeguards joined the meeting. A discussion was had about any concerns or comments about the Becket Town Beach. It was mentioned that people leaving trash behind was the biggest concern. The committee will purchase two 'locking' trash cans to keep in the shed so the animals won't get into the bags. We will ask Bill about having the town crew pick up the trash on a regular, more frequent basis.
