Members present: Rita Furlong, Ginger Conner, and Maddy Elovirta
Areas of discussion:
- One of the light poles at the Becket Center Park needs to be repositioned as it is tipping out and has broken the conduit for the electricity to the pole. Maddy will contact Burke Electric for a price.
- With the work that has been done at the Becket Center Park this summer, it will enable the moving of one set of bleachers closer to the dugout. This will be done in the spring.
- An affirmative vote was taken to move the chain link fence at the North Becket Park to bring it in line with the property lines of all property owners around the park. Rita will contact a fence company.
- An affirmative vote was taken to write an article for the annual town meeting warrant requesting no more than $11,500 to refurbish the tennis courts in the village. Rita has two bids and both were more costly than the Parks Commission budget could handle.
- The sign at the tennis courts in the village is almost illegible. An affirmative vote was taken to have a new sign done with money from Parks Commission current budget.
- An order will be placed with Dresser Hull for mulch and fertilizer for the island flower gardens that Park Commission members take care of. More work needs to be done at the Rte 8/20 intersection islands. This will be done in the spring. Rita, Ginger and Maddy have planted many spring bulbs in each of the islands around town. Look for a spring display.
- The Becket Center Pavilion will be stained again in the spring. Maddy will do that with some help from friends. The money for the stain will come from the current budget.
- The beach erosion at the Center Pond beach is a concern. Members will look at the area again in the spring. More sand will be needed in the summer.
- The short basketball pole still needs to be put up at the skate park for the younger children to use. The pole is already purchased, just needs to be put up. Current budget will purchase a basket and backdrop.
- Two signs will be purchased to encourage parents and friends that come to baseball games at the Becket Center Park to use the parking spaces around the town hall and to not park on the road side. Funds for the signs will come from the current budget.
- Much discussion was had on the options of having a Town of Becket event for town folks. More on this to come at future meetings. Also discussed was the 250th anniversary of the town in 2015. Trees are being planted, the islands have been worked on, and more will be done to prepare the town for the party.
