Becket Historical Commission Meeting – August 3, 7:00pm
Present: Rob, Harry, Rita & Aaron Meeting called to order at 7:00pm
- Minutes from July meeting read and accepted
- No treasurer’s report
- Communications
- Rob wrote to the group doing the work on Center Pond (attn: Lauren Hastings) stating that we have no historical concerns, but to keep us posted on the progress of the project
- We received notification of the Town of Becket’s new assistant Tax Collector
- Marilyn Swindlehurst sent us $1 (she was going through an old Cripple Creek store cash drawer and found it with notation that it was funds received for something the Historical Commission was selling approximately 8-10 years ago.
- Received Community calendar order form from Federated Church. We usually pay $12 to list the Historical Commission’s meetings for the year. Aaron moved that we do so for 2012, Harry seconded and the motion was approved unanimously.
Directional Maps – status of frames: North Becket = uprights are okay, but cross members, plywood on back and trim need to be replaced. Becket Center = 1 upright is okay, cross members, plywood on back & trim need to be replaced. West Becket = entire frame needs to be taken down and rebuilt. There was a discussion about whether or not to outsource repair of frames and whether or not to cover the maps with Plexiglas. Rob will research price of Plexiglas, Aaron will contact the printer to see if there are any issues covering the signs with Plexiglas.
Apothecary – Rob made contact with Tony regarding the creation of a DVD to update the inventory sheet for the Apothecary. Tony expressed excitement about the project. Rob will stay in contact with Tony and report back to the Commission regarding the progress.
Historical Plaques – Rob or Rita will contact Sign Smith (Jayne & Bill Smith) about the historical plaques and ask if they do 1-offs or if we need a larger order for them to produce the plaques.
- We received photos of the original Becket General Store on Main St. from ?
- Rita traded 8-10 of our duplicate postcards with Skip (Dish Hollow store on Main St.) for 3 postcards we did not have: (1) Depot St. (2) Seminary Hall (3) the Gorge
- Rita plans on organizing our room and files this winter
