Present: Rob, Harry, Barb & Aaron       Meeting called to order at 6:58pm
  • Minutes from June meeting read and accepted – a discussion followed regarding the procedure for formally voting to accept meeting minutes. It was suggested that we may not need to formally “vote” to accept meeting minutes, however, the consensus was to continue to vote to accept meeting minutes for now.

Several planning and ZBA items, none in historical districts, no historical concerns on any of the items:

  • Longbow Ln. in Sherwood Forest requesting a variance

Dam on Center Pond – we received a certified letter from the company performing the work on the dam, asking if we have any historical concerns. We have no historical concerns and will send company a letter stating such.
Received letter from Boston Secretary to Historical Commission’s office regarding six wind turbines going up in Peru. No historical concerns for Becket.
Two phone calls: one from a Mrs. Mitchell asking if we have any information about a 1938 hurricane and its impact on Becket. Rob researched and could not find any significant information related to the hurricane and Becket. Also received a call from Merrill Epstein who is writing a paper on Becket and asked Rob what he could tell her about Becket. Rob directed her to the book about Becket’s history.
  • Old Business
Directional Maps – Rob and Aaron have begun installing the new signs, starting with the one in North Becket. There are several decisions that need to be made before winter regarding the frames for the signs and whether or not to put Plexiglas over the maps. Rob and Aaron will take notes on repairs needed on all three frames and report back to the Commission.

Apothecary – Rob has discussed with the owners various avenues for restoring the structure with the help of MA historical and grants. MA historical has suggested that the owners make a video or photo CD showing more detail on the property than the inventory sheet presently shows.

  • New Business
  • Kit Dornbush has not gotten back in touch with us regarding a historical plaque for her home, Rita will get in touch with Chester Sign to see if they can produce one sign at a time for us

Meeting adjourned at 7:20pm
