Historical Commission Minutes 2/9/11
Becket Historical Commission
February 9th, 2011  at 7:03
Becket Town Hall
Attendance: Rob Gordon, Harry Roff, Aaron Beatty, Barbara Stuhlman, Rita Furlong
Minutes of last meeting approved.
Treasurer reported that $500.00 was paid to Canterbury Farms Company from the gift account for the building of the Becket Railroad Station sign support in Ballou Park, North Becket.
Communications:
  • Planning Board notification of request for gas station at the Becket Country Store on Main Street. No historical concerns were noted.
  • Planning Board notification of request for deck on a Sherwood Forest Home. No historical concerns were noted.
  • Notice from MHC regarding Broadband availability box installations. Rob wrote to them to please notify us of the exact locations and appearance of these boxes.
Business:
  • Rob read and we approved with modifications, the annual report to be submitted for the Town Report.
  • Discussion held on the content of the sign we place on the Railroad Station sign to explain its origin and donor. Rita suggested that we include a picture of the former station which was located on Depot Street. Rob will look into the possibility of putting a picture on the plaque that we intend to install.
  • Aaron will get a signed quote on the printing of the large (4’X6’) billboard maps that he and Jennifer have been working on. He will bring it to the next meeting.
  • Rita showed a mock up of the replacement sign for the town pound sign that was stolen. It is a two sided black on white sign to be suspended from the sign post that is still at the pound. We will get a few more details worked out with Signsmith of Chester for the next meeting.  (¾ inch plywood, attachments/chains) Rob will see if he has an armature for hanging the sign on.
  • Rita made a motion to allow Rob to go ahead and get the plaque for the railroad sign post at a cost of no more than $100.00. Aaron seconded. Passed unanimously.
Meeting adjourned at 7:35.
Respectfully submitted,
Rita Furlong, Sec. pro-tem
