Becket Historical Commission
Town Hall
Sept. 2, 2009
7:04 p.m.
Present:  Rob Gorden, Harry Roff, Barbara Stuhlmann, Rita Furlong, Aaron Beatty
Guests:
Secretary’s Report: Treasurer’s Report: OK
Treasurer’s Report: Balance is $900.00-$20.79
Communications/Business:
  • Rob has followed through with the CPC for funding for the signs. Approval from the state is necessary to allow the town to use its CPC funds to pay for our project.
  • Planning Board notified us that the Becket Motel would like to sell hotdogs on the corner near the motel. We feel that there is no historical significance regarding this.  Rob will notify them.
  • Planning Board notified us that the resident at 9 Peterson Road has requested a permit for a deck. No historical significance noted. Rob will notify them.
  • Railroad sign foundation done by Rob, Aaron, and Becket Boy Scout-
Nick Sawyer. County Concrete supplied cement. Ties need to be moved and Richard Furlong will be asked to help on Saturday morning.
  • We filled out the application form for the signage project to the Community Preservation Committee.
It will be submitted to the CPC when Rob completes the final form.
  • Rob wrote to the MHC correcting the name of the Meier House  on County Road to the Messenger House. The present family (Hersch) would  like to put up a old house sign. When we get acceptance from the MHC, they may proceed with their  request for a sign.
  • Maps-we discussed additions to the listings that Aaron and Jennifer have created, and questioned the need for directional circles. We may add a Becket Center circle/or delete the other three.
  • Rita has notified us that she would like to resign as secretary. Rita nominated Barbara Stuhlman as new secretary, Harry seconded, all approved. Rita will remain as treasurer.
Meeting adjourned at 7:45
Respectfully submitted,

Rita Furlong
