Communications/Business:
  • Rec’d letter from Bob Gerner requesting a copy of the oral interviews we did with Dr. and Mrs. George Breit and Mrs. Frances Snow, all of Becket. Barbara will make tape copies so that we might send them to him in Florida. Bob, former BHC member and Rita did oral interview with these folks a few years ago.
  • Rob- railroad ties-
  • Rob reported that no treated lumber is  available in 8 x 8. So we’ll use railroad ties. Planning Board member, Gail LaBelle attended to see the historical BECKET Railroad Station sign given to us by the Ballou family. An unveiling ceremony should occur following the display construction. To be addressed at the next meeting.
  • Ms.  LaBelle also brought up the possibility of wind towers and so we discussed  the coming of windmills built with the state’s permission in defiance of  individual town’s by-laws. We decided to not formally vote against it, but speak as an individual regarding thoughts on the subject.
  • Hersch family on County Rd. would like a plaque, but our inventory calls it the Meier house. The builder was John Messenger and was built in 1780-1800. An addendum will need to be filled out and sent to the state to change the name from Meier to Messenger.
  • Voted to purchase more cassette tapes to have available in case we want to interview someone.
Meeting adjourned at 7.50.
Respectfully submitted,

Rita Furlong
