Communications:
  • MHC wants us to our confirm membership names and addresses. They also want to know what activities we are working on:  signage, acquiring preservation materials for future storage, mounting Railroad Station sign, and collecting and preserving memorabilia and ephemera.
  • National Alliance of preservation Commissions requests our membership. We decided not to join.
  • Long Bow Lane addition–Planning Board requests our input. We determined that the home is not of significant historic value.
Business:
  • Rob filled out a permit request for Railroad Sign to town Building Inspector. No fee is required. Boy Scout members will help construct the form and mount the sign with Aaron and Rob’s supervision.
  • ATM-May 9th - we need to be ready to respond to questions about our by-law change regarding the age of historic buildings.
  • Discussion held on how to pay for our large signs. We do have funds in our town budget, or  we could use CPA funds, or wait and use next year’s budget.
  • Aaron says that he needs to scan the large town map for use in creating the three signs. Cost will be $36.00. Barbara made a motion, Harry 2nd, Motion passed.  Discussion continued regarding a time line  about using which money source to use to pay, due to the need to produce an actual bill and expenditure by June 30, 2009. It was decided to use our fiscal year 2010 budget if it passes at the ATM. If it does not pass, then we’ll ask for CPA funds as per the article on the ATM.
  • Historic house signs. Rob has had 14 inquiries. Only one included funds to pay for sign. It was decided that a deed mentioning a building on the lot should be brought to a meeting with us. If one does not exist due to it being an early site, we will then treat each case individually. Jennifer suggested creating a form to assist home owners with their research on the actual date of the dwelling. (List resources, web sites, and the registry of deeds process). We decided to meet with the Watrobas, who are the only family to submit the fee, to decide what to put on their plaque.
  • Becket Fair Day- July 18th -We decided to sell maps, booklets, walking tours, and share plaque information with anyone interested. We’ll take turns manning the table.
  • Rita and Rich Furlong donated two Becket postcards of  Depot Street and the train station.
Meeting adjourned at: 7:59 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
